I have been on Mountain Standard Time for 2 years, 5 months and 19 days. And I'm still not used to it. I still miss Eastern Standard Time. I just can't get it out of my system. I still think EST.
Out here, Prime Time starts at 7 p.m. and apparently I just can't get that through my head. I regularly miss shows I'd like to waste time watching. Some might argue that's good though.
At any rate, it still bugs me that the Today Show puts "Live" on their screen when I know it's not. Matt, you cracked that joke two bloody hours ago. You're not live anymore! Stop it!
And New Year's Eve? Don't get me started. This year, at 10 p.m., NBC was running a "just one hour until the ball drops" ticker. What the? Someone needs to get coordinated.
Election night? Why bother going to the polls when the news anchors are already calling the big, important states for someone and predicting a landslide by 5 p.m. here?
I feel bad for those people in California. Or Hawaii? Pffffft. Fuggedaboutit. They're practically on the same timezone as Japan, so who cares.
I'm getting some relief from the fact that we can now watch shows online. So when I sit down at 9 p.m. to watch The Office, only to realize it was on an hour ago, I don't nearly blow a vein.
These things are important to me.
Sad, I know.
Bonus points tonight if you can name the band who sang the song in the title of this post. No Googling though.

Oh, oh, oh.... it's on the tip of my tongue!!!
Chicago? Cheating though because I collaborated with my husband, my own personal music Google. Unless we're wrong, in which case I asked him straight out.

Sorry to have not commented lately. :-(
On your previous hockey post, I'm with ya on wondering who gets more tired at the kids sporting events. When we come home from the girls gymnastics meets, we are utterly exhausted. And all we did was sit and watch. I think the adrenaline flowing in the parents as we watch and tense up is what wipes us out. The kids have the huge adrendaline rush while they are competing as well as the physical exertion. I think it is more the "release" at the end that wipes everyone out.
BTW - thank you for "friending" me on facebook. I feel so cool being friends with you, Kristie, and Ree/Pioneer Woman. I feel like I am sitting at the cool kids table in the lunchroom. :-)
Can you DVR the shows? Then you can watch your shows whenever you want - even at 'normal' EST if you want! :-) You could skip through the commercials that way, too, and be even more efficient! (I'm too cheap to pay for DVR, so it's a good thing that I live in EST...)
Chicago....
Meant to post the other day but life got in the way...anyhow, I've lurked here for longer than I should admit without ever commenting but your post on Declan's love of hockey got me...been a LA Kings season ticket holder for 20+ years and would love to send Declan some memorabilla (we've got a spare closet full of game giveaways). We are going to their annual charity event this Sunday and I could possibly get some autographs as well. Unless of course he hates the Kings in which case, I understand. You couldn't pay me to allow anything with the word Ducks on it in my house. My email is hh90815@hotmail.com. Let me know if you/he are interested and if there's a particular player he likes.
P.S. Thanks for all the laughs.
I had the same feelings when I moved to Texas and started that whole 7 Central thing. The ball drops at 11 PM. WTF? Now back on the west coast, I like my 8 PM life again though I DVR pretty much everything to watch later.
I second the DVR (or TiVo)! I love mine! I don't have to worry about my kids accidently watching something inappropriate or missing part of a show or anything. I don't know how we lived without it!
Yeah, Chicago...My hubby was in a band when we met and they played this, along with more of Chicago, Doobie Bros, Earth Wind & Fire, etc.
Anyway, your name (in Marey's comments) caught my attention... I'll visit again!
I have no idea about the band, but just have to say that having grown up on CST, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being back on it and having prime time start at 7pm!! I realize I'm probably in the minority, but all those years (close to ten, total) when we lived in Ohio and Georgia, and were in EST with prime time at 8pm, I hated it. My kids bedtime was at 8pm, so basically, I quit watching television (this was back before dvr's, of course) because I got tired of missing the first fifteen or thirty minutes of everything while I put my kids down. Now my kids and I can watch an hour (or two!) of prime time (hello, American Idol!) then turn off the tv and go to bed ---- LOVE IT!!!
Yeah . . . that's why I'm one of those odd transplants from California to the Northeast . . . civilization!
I love the idea of watching shows online. Here's the thing though, I love "Big Love" on HBO. We cancelled HBO last year since there was nothing we wanted to watch except Big Love and Soptranos--cancelled.
To the best of my knowledge I don't think Big Love is online. I think I will have to wait for the entire season to come out on DVD.
Anyone know if Big Love is online?
I can't believe you've been there for nearly 2.5 years! I remember when you were just packing up! It doesn't seem like that long to me.
The advantage of MST is that you get to stay up to watch the end of the Oscars. And Monday Night Football. Neither of which I watch anyhow.
If you like to watch programs on line from broadcast T.V. . . . here are some sites.
www.fancast.com
tesla.liketelevision.com
and you can watch many movies online at
netflix.com
Some we will be able to down load the shows you want and plug the card into your big tv and watch it there. cable is dead. Demand what you wnt from the distributers or cancel them.
Love your blog! You are awesome!
Okay if anyone does not know that the group was Chicago, then they need to listen to the radio with the oldies. I know that I just dated myself.
